Three people were killed and eight others were wounded after two men opened fire on a group celebrating the victory of a high school football game.
Several hundred people had been celebrating near an outdoor trail after the game ended early Saturday near Lexington, Mississippi, when chaos broke out.
Police currently do not know what sparked the shooting, but a fight broke out between some attendees before shots were fired.
Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said, “It was chaos, to tell you the truth.” The shooting just started and people started running.
The school was celebrating a homecoming victory when the shots were fired.
Two nineteen-year-olds died and a 25-year-old also died from his injuries.
Shundra Chestnut and John Jenkins, 19, and Martel Gibson, 25, were named.
The status of the others is currently unknown.
March added: “It’s hard to see why they’re fighting.” I don’t think they’re fighting over territory or drugs.
‘These are young men walking around with guns. I wish I had an answer.’
In 2019, four people were killed and others injured after a gunman opened fire at a football game viewing party in California.
So far this year, there have been more than 385 mass shootings in the United States. according to the Armed Violence Archivemy.
