AMARILLO, Texas (KEYU) -Amarillo’s new Buc-ee’s saw steady traffic throughout opening day thanks to a proactive approach and improvements from TxDOT.
According to TxDOT, they have been preparing for the store’s opening for months to avoid delays in traffic leading to the airport or the new store.
“I mean, I know the Buc-ee’s are always packed. I was expecting a long line, but honestly, it went by a lot faster than I expected,” said customer Ruthie Swain.
TxDOT came up with the solution to increase safety measures and reduce traffic jams prior to opening.
“What the TxDOT crews did was they made some improvements to the traffic lights that were here. Previously, they were just flashing yellow lights, but now they are official red, yellow and green lights, that way they can help with better monitoring,” said Jason Britsch, TxDOT.
According to TxDOT, these will be a permanent fixture at the busy intersection. So far they have not experienced any complications.
