AMARILLO, Texas (KEYU) -The City of Amarillo is looking for volunteers for its annual Point in Time (PIT) count.
The PIT Count, led by the City of Amarillo Community Development Department and Amarillo Continuum of Care, includes volunteers who go around Amarillo over a 24-hour period to count the homeless population and conduct a survey.
PIT Count training sessions are available at the Simms Building, located at 808 S. Buchanan at the following times:
- Wednesday, January 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Thursday, January 16 from 10 a.m. to noon
- Thursday, January 23 from 10 a.m. to noon and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The PIT Count is scheduled for January 31.
“The PIT Count is vital in providing an accurate representation of not only the number of homeless individuals and families in Amarillo, but also helps determine the needs and resources needed to provide assistance to our unhoused neighbors,” said Angela, Monitor COA Community Development Grants. Snow. “The success of the PIT Count depends on volunteers, and we really appreciate how Amarillo responds by helping the homeless community.”
