Maine-Endwell student arrested after posting school threat on social media

ENDWELL, NY (WBNG) – The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that an Endwell juvenile was arrested Tuesday.

The Sheriff’s Office said that after an investigation, it arrested a 15-year-old Maine-Endwell High School student and charged her with threatening mass harm, which is a misdemeanor.

On Dec. 17, the office said it was alerted to an online threat posted that same day on Snapchat. Detectives said they were able to locate the account owner within minutes of making the report.

Maine-Endwell Central School District Superintendent Jason Van Fossen said school safety comes first.

“Upon learning of this possible online threat, the student was immediately identified and brought to the office,” Van Fossen said. “The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to the high school within minutes. At no time were our students, faculty or staff in danger. We commend the Sheriff’s Office team for their quick response and will continue to treat any and all threats of this type seriously. “The safety of our school community is of utmost importance and behavior of this type will not be tolerated.”
