Renters at Lakeland RV park react to suspicious death in neighborhood

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Neighbors are concerned about the death of a man in Lakeland after hearing a gunshot late last night.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death at Canada Trace Mobile Home Community Wednesday night.

Officers arrived at the scene at 9:25 p.m. after receiving a report of a fight. They found a man lying on the ground unresponsive. The man died after efforts to save him.

Neighbors reported that a gunshot was heard, but no suspect or suspects were found at the scene.

“Now I’m worried about my safety,” says Jane Maule, a nearby resident. “What a shame for the people involved and what a shame for this small community.”

Some residents shared the trailer park and felt like a safe, friendly community, and expected a suspicious death like this to occur.

“It was surprising,” says a neighbor who heard the gunshot just outside his mobile home. “It wasn’t something we thought we were going to wake up to.”

Detectives are now investigating this case and looking for suspects.
