Repeat offender sentenced to over 16 years, considered a ‘career criminal,’ U.S. attorney says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -According to United States Attorney Reagan Fondren, Tommie Conner, 49, of Memphis, has been sentenced to 200 months in federal prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

On March 4, 2021, a Memphis Police Department officer observed a Dodge Durango accelerating at a high rate of speed on American Way.

The Durango was stopped and the driver, later identified as Conner, fled; He was later located by agents who arrived at the scene.

While investigating the crime, officers saw a handgun lying in the vehicle.

Conner is a felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Specifically, in 1993, Conner pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and three counts of aggravated robbery in state court and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In 2005, Conner was convicted in federal court in the Western District of Tennessee of being a felon in possession of a firearm and sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after it was determined that he was an armed career criminal.

In September 2021, Conner was indicted in the Western District of Tennessee for being a felon in possession of a firearm. In June 2024, a jury found Conner guilty of that crime. It also found that at least three of Conner’s previous crimes occurred on different occasions.

Conner was sentenced as an “armed career criminal” under the ACCA (Armed Career Criminal Act).

On December 19, Conner was sentenced to 200 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release; There is no parole in the federal system.
