Chicago area could see multiple chances of snow in coming days

After several days of above-average temperatures, the Chicago area could have a couple of chances for snow showers in the coming days.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for high temperatures in the 40s, but a disturbance arriving late in the afternoon hours could bring precipitation to the region, according to forecast models.

Precipitation is expected to continue into Wednesday morning and it may be cold enough for snow to fall in some places. However, it is not expected to be a snow accumulation event, although some untreated roads could become slick before the system leaves the area.

The next chance for snow could arrive Thursday, with a storm system bringing the chance of light snow showers during the afternoon commute, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.

Again, the system is not expected to produce any real accumulations, but slippery travel could still occur, especially in areas north of Interstate 80.

Temperatures are expected to remain cool on Friday and Saturday, and a combination of lake effect snow showers could occur in northwest Indiana and snow showers in the Chicago area as the weekend progresses.

The highest chance of snow will occur on Saturday, and areas near Lake Michigan could see the brunt of that impact, according to the National Weather Service and the NBC 5 storm team.

Early next week, temperatures are expected to rise again, meaning the next system to arrive on Christmas Eve could end up being a rain-only event.

Holiday high temperatures could reach 40 degrees, and rain is possible on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
