Man accused of robbing same bank twice, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Police Department arrested and charged a man accused of robbing the same bank twice.

According to MPD, on October 2, a masked suspect, later identified as Sherman Weakley, entered the First South Financial Bank on South Highland Street. He walked around the building before attempting to enter.

After trying unsuccessfully to open the door of the business, the suspect approached the teller’s window and demanded money while pointing a black handgun at the employee; the employee gave him more than $1,000 from the cash register.

On November 1, Weakley returned to First Financial South and attempted to rob the business once again. He walked out of the business once more before entering.

He pointed the gun at the clerk and was given $15,000 from the cash register.

Upon further investigation, officers were able to detect Weakley after he attempted to flee the scene.

Weakley was taken into police custody and now faces two counts of aggravated robbery.
