TBI: Deputies fatally shoot armed 80-year-old who refused to drop weapon in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. (WMC) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is in Jackson, Tennessee, after Madison County deputies reportedly shot and killed an armed elderly man Monday night.

TBI says Robert Harrison, 80, died from his injuries at the hospital.

State officials say the shooting stemmed from a disturbance call made shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Fern Drive in Jackson involving an armed suspect “acting violently.”

Responding officers reportedly heard a gunshot upon arrival before encountering Harrison, who the TBI said was armed.

Preliminary information indicates that Harrison refused to comply with officers’ orders to drop his weapon.

For reasons still under investigation, TBI says an agent fired his service weapon, striking Harrison during the encounter.

Harrison was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive.

No officers were injured during the incident.

TBI is investigating this case.
