West Tenn. Drug Task Force recognized for record-breaking year of drug seizures, arrests

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office is recognizing the West Tennessee Drug Task Force for its record year of seizing thousands of pounds of illegal drugs and arresting hundreds of suspected criminals .

Task force director Johnnie Carter says that this year alone, his agents have seized more than 2,600 pounds of illegal drugs passing through western Tennessee counties.

A large part of the drugs were found in bus stations, airports and roads. Carter believes the rise in illegal drugs is due to foreign organized crime.

“We seized many drugs from what we believe to be Chinese criminal organizations operating out of Oklahoma, as well as some from California. And I think that’s what led to the biggest seizures we had this year.”

Carter also says community tips help find these criminals.
